Deadline is postmark January 8th to avoid late fees

Cincinnati JOAD has about 20 registered so far including a bunch of new archers
we have returning state champions Peyton OKA, (Bowman R) Ian Coombe (Cadet R) and Junior Recurve (Derek Hsiao) along with recent JDT member Noah Shedroff shooting up as a Junior. The cub female recurve division is stacked with experienced archers as well. Turnout from the other clubs-so far-is light though Returning Cadet ladies champion Izzie Smith is a favorite to repeat in that division.

I have not seen ANY entries from Toledo which is surprising given that they are hosting the State JOAD outdoors.

Despite one club-the one that was given the privilege of hosting the state JOAD Outdoor not sending a SINGLE archer, the state indoor was pretty much an unqualified success. Three strong compound archers from “Bill’s Field and Stream Archery Pro Shop in PA came-Ben Alexander, his sister and Jacob Filer traveled 5 hours to shoot with us. CRA sent two junior compound archers, ACE had a bunch of kids and Columbus FITA had three.

In recurve, CJO continued its domination as Peyton Oka (Bowman) and Ian Coombe (Cadet) repeated as champions though Ian came close to losing to uber-talented Brady Wilson of ACE who ran out of gas late and lost to Ian by one point. Owen Shedroff moved up to Cub to lead a CJO sweep in that division and CJO swept Junior as Noah Shedroff-now a JDT member and gold olympian moved to Junior (he has eyes on winning the All Events trophy in both JOAD and adult) edged out last year’s champion Derek Hsiao. Andrew Creath of CJO was third.

CFA Hannah Mielcarek won bowman again. Last year’s cub winner Emma Cousino of CJO moved up a year early to cadet but could not stop ACE’s talented Izzie Smith from winning again. CJO swept Cub with Hannah Hanbury winning ahead of brand new archer Madison Rosenbalm and last year’s national outdoor fourth place bowman Lily Schweitzer. CJO also won Junior as Valerie Link posted the highest female recurve score in the tournament.

CJO swept all of the team events easily

In Compound, it was ACC with some strong ladies while CJO won most of the team events. Trey McDonald of CJO won bowman yet again. Last year he barely beat CFA’s Parker Kussmaul by four points but this year he went up 40 points and won by 34 or so. This huge victory allowed CJO to easily win the major compound title. In Bowman girls, ACC’s Sophie Howard easily won with new CJO archer (who will be back in bowman next year) Ceridwyn Salyers second. In Cub girls, new CJO archer Kylie Martin beat Ashley Blackford of ACC to win. In Cadet recurve, ACC’s Kiersten Hanna posted the top score of all girls with a 550 beating long time rivals Hannah Rutkowski (ACC) and Molly Clawson (ACE). BFSAPS Karie Alexander won visitor with a strong score.

IN Cub boys compound, Thomas Dye of ACE easily won over CJO Joshua Smith (who had taken third earlier that day in recurve). There were no Cadet compounds from Ohio but Jacob Filer of the PA club took visitor. His team mate, Ben Alexander shot a 288 Silver Olympian score and then backed it up with a 290 Gold Olympian last thirty arrows to post one of the highest compound scores seen at this tournament, albeit by a visitor (the Alexanders live in Ohio but their club is in PA)

In Juniors, CRA sent two archers. Sophie Stanczak, last year’s cadet winner won junior uncontested. In Men’s Junior compound. Matt Swit of CRA won by ten points over last year’s cadet champion Noah Shedroff who dusted off his compound last week to help the CJO team/ Third place was Nick Carroll also of CJO.

In traveling teams, CJO won the overall club event again and the mixed event while ACC’s three strong girls (Kiersten, Ashley and Hannah) put up a score that would have won most years. CJO’s remaining two boys, Noah and Trey were the only entry in boys team and won that.

Ian’s win in cadet was his seventh straight victory though if Noah had remained in cadet, Noah would have stopped the streak. Ian set a second record-he has been the high scorer for his age for the traveling trophy 7 years straight (3 years in the bowman division and four years in the cub/Cadet division). I suspect next year Owen Shedroff or Peyton Oka should be able to beat him out on the bigger target though.

CJO doesn’t lose anyone next year but replacing Trey and Peyton in bowman will be a challenge. Hopefully the other clubs will get more archers so the team events will be contested in all the divisions
